Hello everyone!<\/h1>\n
\n

After two weeks, it’s time for an update again! It is always good to start the new year with a decent amount of self-reflection. Just as\u00a0Jamie Dimon did<\/a>, when he conveyed his regret over calling Bitcoin a fraud. Well done Jamie — you stepped out to this year with the right foot! In general, a lot has been going\u00a0on in crypto and the alts, but in my opinion, the intensity of events in the BTC world outpaced all the other coins. See for yourself.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin:<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

– Bitcoin’s future, with\u00a0advancements of the Lightning networ<\/a>k, seems to be brighter than ever! So once again,\u00a0why is LN<\/a>\u00a0so important?
\n– Moreover, the\u00a0mempool is clearing, fees are dropping down, and Coinbase finally implemented batching and enabled Segwit<\/a>.
\n– Some of the\u00a0Core devs also published a paper elaborating implementation of the\u00a0Schnorr signatures into the Bitcoin protocol<\/a>\u00a0– enhancing privacy and scalability at the same time.
\n– Gregory Maxwell, Bitcoin Core’s dev, left his engagement at Blockstream<\/a>\u00a0to focus solely on development of BTC.
\n– The same company, Blockstream, also\u00a0launched Lightning Charge<\/a>\u00a0— a micropayment processing system that will make it simpler for developers to build apps on top of the Lightning Network.
\n– Some BTC folks got excited about\u00a0NiPoPoW – “Non-Interactive Proofs of Proofs of Work”<\/a>.
\n– KFC Canada\u00a0started to accept<\/a>\u00a0bitcoins too!
\n– Beautiful overview of the organic development\u00a0of not only the Bitcoin ecosystem —\u00a0demonstrated by many kinds of data.<\/a>
\n– A\u00a0serious vulnerabilit<\/a>y was discovered in the Electrum wallet, a software considered to be one of the safest one to interact with Bitcoin network.
\n– The Bitfury group unveiled\u00a0new solution<\/a>\u00a0for forensic analysis on the Bitcoin network.
\n– Nice explanation of the cryptographic\u00a0hash functions<\/a>\u00a0used in Bitcoin.
\n– A new\u00a0report<\/a>\u00a0on Bitcoin and money laundering suggests illicit transactions make up less than 1% of BTC transactions.<\/p>\n

Ethereum:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

– Vitalik came up with a new model for ICOs –\u00a0DAICO<\/a>. He also was a guest on the\u00a0Unchained<\/a>\u00a0podcast.
\n– Bitmex Research group put together a nice time-line of the all events related to the DAO hack.
\n– KyberNetwork\u00a0launched<\/a>\u00a0on the Ropsten testnet. They also announced a new\u00a0partnership<\/a>\u00a0with ICON.
\n–\u00a0 OmiseGo devs wrote a\u00a0piece<\/a>\u00a0on construction of a Plasma chain – an anticipated Ethereum scaling solution. Somebody else wrote then nice\u00a0overview<\/a>\u00a0of the whole OmiseGo project.
\n– If you are a developer, you may find it useful to read what\u00a0obstacles<\/a>\u00a0you might face while developing ETH-related apps.<\/p>\n

Altcoins:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

–\u00a0France\u00a0declared war<\/a>\u00a0to cryptocurrencies!
\n– Kodak has learnt a lesson from the past, and\u00a0plans to release<\/a>\u00a0a coin to catch up with the blockchain industry.
\n– Binance, one of the largest altcoin exchanges, saw an\u00a0exponential growth<\/a>\u00a0in the past days.
\n– The team behind one of the most decent altcoins out there, Basic Attention Token,\u00a0decided to gave away<\/a>\u00a0a good bunch coins to the users of their Brave browser.
\n– Bancor, one of the most prominent ICOs from the past year,\u00a0partnered once again with TAAS<\/a>\u00a0in order to create a TAAS\/BNT Token relay.
\n– Brendan Bernstein of Tetras Capital Partners wrote a nice\u00a0piece<\/a>\u00a0on investing in alts.
\n– Have you\u00a0heard of EOS? It’s been in TOP 10 coins for some time already – let’s look\u00a0what is under the hood<\/a>\u00a0there.
\n– As you may have noticed, it is trendy for an altcoin exchange to launch their own token, but\u00a0what is the reason behind it<\/a>?
\n– An interesting\u00a0piece<\/a>\u00a0contemplating insider trading at Coinbase, related to Litecoin.<\/p>\n

ICOs:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

– Telegram plans to do a robust ICO soon, even though they received lots of critique regarding their supposedly\u00a0leaked white paper<\/a>, some folks in the industry don’t hide their excitement about it.
\n–\u00a0 Overview of\u00a0seven platforms\u00a0<\/a>that facilitate ICOs.<\/p>\n

Blockchain & Tech:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

– Overview of the\u00a0ways blockchain tech is utilized<\/a>\u00a0in the corporate environment.
\n– Folks at Blockgeeks put together all the potential\u00a0attack vectors<\/a>\u00a0that cryptocurrencies face today.
\n– Mike Novogratz\u00a0came with a new plan<\/a>, after scrapping the idea of setting up a crypto fund.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
